Night photography is our forte, and Milan at night offers dramatic views one can only dream of during daytime. Workers leave the city center and business districts to avid photographers who can finally enjoy the cityscape on their own.
Grab your tripod and join us a for a few hours of light painting and night photo techniques exploration!
This photo tour begins before sunset in the business area of Porta Nuova, where we will explore reflections of Milan’s skyline and we will wait for blue hour, working with juxtaposition of artificial and natural light.
Once darkness falls we will go to the the now uncrowded Piazza del Duomo to shoot the amazing contrast between white marbles and dark skies. The buildings in the area offer an incredible backdrop for night photography.
As an alternative, if you favor a more lively area, we will head into Navigli district to photograph the beautiful renovated Darsena (Milan’s old port) and surrounding canals. At the end of the photo tour we would love to have a drink together in one of the many cafes and pubs of the area.
To enjoy the best night views of Milan, in this photo tour we will use public transport between locations.
Walking distance: approx 3 km/2 mi
Required time: 3,5 hours. Tour begins 1/2 hour before dusk.
You will need a tripod, a camera with a wide angle and a telephoto lens for skylines. A fast prime might be useful for night reportage. T/S lenses are an awesome plus. Filters too.
Photo editing option:
If you want to make the most out of your photography, you can book one hour or more with our professional photographers for a session of photo review and light editing after your photo tour.
We will sit together in front of a laptop, discussing your work and retouching your best shots with Photoshop Lightroom.
- Three and a half hours of guided photo tour/workshop with one of our professional photographers.
- Water from the “drago verde”.
- Ice cream from “Grom” if you happen to take this photo tour in the summertime with Paolo.
- Photo review of the night’s pictures (we can arrange this at an extra cost of €50 per hour).
- Food and drinks.
- Transportation (we will take the subway if you are not in a hurry).
We are a team of working professional photographers. Our field of expertise encompasses many areas in the photography business. We shoot on assignment and personal projects. We shoot editorials, portraits, events, still life, travel, architecture and basically anything from small assignments to commercials. Strangely enough none of us specializes on food photography. It must be because we love to eat it. Some of us are photography teachers, journalists and certified experts.
Please ask and we will try to satisfy your request. Since we are often traveling or busy on assignments we don’t know who of us is going to be available on your required dates.
Our photo tour groups are very small. Most often it’s going to be you and your party (if there is one). Sometimes we will merge small groups if their schedule is tight. We never build groups with more than 6 people + photographer per group. We like to have a personal approach and to spend time with you and your photography. If your party is a larger group please enquire and we will arrange more than one photographer.
Of course he/she may come with us but he/she will need to book and pay as a participant. Please remember that Milan offers plenty to do for non photographers.
Yes. All of our photographers speak Italian and English. Some of us speak other languages as well. Our photo tours are held in english.
The camera you are familiar with, with lenses and accessories. A range of lenses from wide-angle to telephoto. We will probably never use flash but it would be a good idea to bring it along. If you own a bridge or a compact camera it is fine as long as you can manually control it. Bring a light backpack because there will be some walking. You will need comfortable shoes and clothing, water, warm clothes in the winter and sunscreen and a hat in the summer. For night photo tours a tripod is essential. Please remember to check that your camera is properly working before the beginning of the photo tour, recharge your batteries (bring a spare) and bring as many cards as possibile.
Regarding cameras we welcome smartphones as well, in fact you can choose any of our photo tours and let us know you will be shooting with your smartphone.
If it rains we will try to rework our schedule together. If you have time constraints or we cannot allocate another slot we will do the photo tour all the same. Milan is a fascinating city in the rain too; it is different but nonetheless enchanting. If you’re lucky enough to be in Milan during a snowfall, you’re going to love it!
Yes it is. As long as you don’t leave your belongings unattended there will be no problems. Our photo tours go through busy and central areas which are well protected by law enforcement. During night photo tours we will be walking in central and well lit areas. We never had a problem.
Transportation is on feet, so be prepared to walk some. Comfortable shoes are a must but we will take it easy, so that everyone will have time to work on subjects. You must be reasonably fit to walk for a few hours. There’s going to be breaks for a cappuccino in the winter or an ice cream in the summer. Or both.
